Katsina State Government has approved ₦20 million for each of its 34 local government areas to renovate and upgrade graveyards across the state, bringing the total allocation to about ₦680 million.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announced the approval while receiving royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura emirates at the Government House. According to the governor, the move is intended both as a public service and as a gesture to attract Allah’s blessings for the state.
State officials said the funds are meant to enable local governments to rehabilitate and upgrade burial grounds in their respective areas, and will be disbursed to councils to carry out the works. The announcement was made alongside other executive approvals reported by the state, including welfare measures for traditional rulers.
The allocation comes amid a wider round of project approvals by the state executive council in recent weeks, which included security, health and infrastructure expenditures. State authorities said the approvals reflect a push to improve public amenities and support traditional institutions.
Local government officials will be expected to present plans and timelines for the rehabilitation projects once funds are released; residents and community leaders will likely watch implementation closely to ensure the upgrades reach the intended cemeteries.
