Fenerbahçe have parted ways with head coach José Mourinho, the Turkish club confirmed on Friday, ending the Portuguese manager’s 14-month spell in charge.
The decision came two days after Fenerbahçe failed to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, losing to Benfica in the decisive play-off tie. The early-season European elimination — a major sporting and financial blow — was widely reported as the main factor behind the club’s move.
Mourinho, 62, was appointed by Fenerbahçe in mid-2024 amid high expectations after a long and decorated managerial career in Europe. Despite periods of promise, his time in Istanbul ended without the club securing sustained success in domestic or continental competitions.
In a brief statement the club thanked Mourinho for his efforts and confirmed that they had “parted ways,” without naming an immediate replacement. Media outlets say talks about potential successors are already underway and pundits have begun linking Mourinho with several possible future jobs.
