President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Thursday following official engagements in Japan and a state visit to Brazil, his office and media outlets reported. The president arrived back in Abuja after a series of meetings and ceremonial events that both governments described as aimed at deepening trade, energy and aviation ties.
“It feels good to be back home in Nigeria 🇳🇬 after recent engagements in Japan 🇯🇵 and Brazil 🇧🇷,” the post quoting Mr. Tinubu said as images from the trips circulated on social media.
During the two-day state visit to Brazil, Mr. Tinubu and his Brazilian counterpart held bilateral talks and signed multiple agreements covering trade, energy, aviation, science and finance — moves intended to expand commercial links between Africa’s biggest economy and Latin America’s largest market. Brazilian officials welcomed proposals for new flight routes and industrial cooperation, including plans announced for an Embraer service centre and a direct Lagos–São Paulo air link.
Energy cooperation emerged as a headline outcome of the Brasília meetings. Mr. Tinubu said Brazil’s state oil company, Petrobras, “should be able to return quickly” to Nigerian operations, and both sides discussed broader collaboration on oil and gas projects and investments. Brazilian leaders expressed support for accelerating talks between Petrobras and Nigerian partners.
The president’s trip was preceded by participation in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), where he joined other African and Japanese leaders to discuss development and private-sector partnerships. From Japan he proceeded to Brazil for the state visit, returning to Abuja after roughly two weeks of travel and diplomacy.
The administration said the visits are part of a broader push to attract investment, diversify Nigeria’s economic partnerships and boost aviation and trade links. Officials will now brief stakeholders at home on the specific memoranda of understanding signed and the follow-up steps for implementation.
