EFCC operatives have arrested 38 suspected internet fraudsters during a targeted raid on Mambillah Hotel on Omodisu Street, Ikorodu, Lagos. Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, officers moved in and took the suspects into custody while recovering multiple mobile phones, SIM cards, vehicles and what appeared to be controlled substances. The devices and other exhibits have been seized for forensic examination as investigators work to trace financial links and build a case.
Those detained are being questioned at the EFCC Lagos zonal office as part of an ongoing probe into alleged cyber-enabled fraud and organised criminal activity. Investigators said digital forensics, financial analysis and interviews will form the core of the inquiry, with charges expected once prima facie evidence has been established. The commission has in recent months stepped up operations across Lagos and other states to dismantle fraud hubs and transnational networks exploiting online platforms.
Local residents welcomed the operation, saying it disrupts centres that allegedly facilitate scams and lure victims both domestically and overseas. Legal experts caution that while the arrests are a strong signal of enforcement, due process and careful handling of electronic evidence will be crucial to securing convictions in court. The EFCC has urged anyone with information about the suspects or related networks to come forward as the investigation continues.
