AC Milan have pulled the plug on their proposed loan signing of Nigeria and Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface after the 24-year-old failed the club’s medical examinations, according to Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano and multiple media reports.
Sources say the agreement between the clubs had been verbally settled — reportedly a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million buy option — but that formal paperwork was contingent on Boniface passing the San Siro medicals. When those checks flagged an issue, Milan decided not to proceed and Boniface has returned to Germany.
Italian and Nigerian outlets report the concern centred on Boniface’s right knee and his injury history, prompting Milan’s medical staff to request further assessment before committing to the move. Club insiders had already completed an extended round of tests over the weekend before the decision was taken.
The collapse of the deal is a major setback for Milan’s summer recruitment plans and leaves Boniface — who had travelled to Milan to finalise terms — back at Bayer Leverkusen while both clubs reassess their options. AC Milan are expected to explore alternative attacking targets as the transfer window progresses.
For Boniface, the immediate priority will likely be a medical and fitness review with Leverkusen’s medical team and a decision on his short-term future. It remains unclear whether the player or his representatives will seek a second opinion or try to reopen talks with Milan once any issues are addressed.
