The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari departed London on Tuesday morning aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, bound for his hometown of Daura in Katsina State, Channels Television reports. The repatriation follows the completion of all necessary diplomatic and health-clearance formalities in the United Kingdom .
Accompanying the coffin are Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, who flew in from Abuja to receive the body in London on Monday. They will lead the official procession from the tarmac of Stansted Airport straight to Daura for the state‐organized funeral later this week .
President Bola Tinubu has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday nationwide to allow Nigerians to pay their last respects. The national flag remains at half-mast until after the burial, which will be conducted according to Islamic rites in Daura.
